Day 59 Mon - The Diving Project (aka Seahorse Conservation)

Travelled to the coast via the most stunning countryside yet. Actually made it to the mountains! And there was mist! I think it may have been the edge of the Cardamons. The mountains to the south of us were called the Elephant Mountains (no ellies there now tho). I did find them pretty impressive.

We went through a pass and travelled across what seemed to be an enormous plateaux. Flat land with a lot of flood water. We passed through a Palm plantation, coconuts or even palm fruit. I don't think they were date palms. The plantation was thick and dark and spooky, similar to a dense pine plantation.

Spotted stands of huge eucalyptus and silver birch (or white poplar). Saw a motorcycle crash, with one person unable to get up. Also several celebratory parties for the CPP, though there were a lot of dark looks sent in those directions when we passed them!

The trip was not too bad and we were met in the darkness of Sihanoukville and taken to the guesthouse in tuk-tuk by Erica. First however we stopped for supper at Holy Cow, which is a delicious organic restaurant. I had a bagel and cheese and hot chocolate! Needed this as it was noticeably cooler now. Erica is a typically upbeat New Yorker who used to work in the music industry but jacked it all in for stress aged 25 and is now wandering the world. She clearly hates wifi as she put us in the only guesthouse in town with no wifi... I restarted my journal.
