Day 21 - summer solstice and end of week three

Today there was a thunderstorm while I was at work and it finally rained - it has not rained in Hanoi since the last time I mentioned it here. Cool trip home at the end of the third week of teaching.

Nyen gave me some pictures she had drawn herself of One Direction. I gave her a little bookmark and one for Dsong too. I also had great success with 'little boxes' the join the dots game, with my oldest and best class, third graders apparently. All seven years old.

Wrote some final postcards from Hanoi to all and sundry. Watched you all sleeping via my "Living Earth" app.

Going out to Avalon this evening to celebrate Nina's birthday and Pernille's last night, then it's off to Mai Chau tomorrow morning.

Later: Made it to The Rooftop club, Pacific Place. Now this is more like it!

  1. Hi Fio.
The last time I tried to comment on a blog I lost it all, so I am typing carefully! As always, everything you write is both fascinating and funny. What a brilliant way to see a country: rather than just being a travelling tourist, the opportunity to really get to know a peole from the grass roots, one might say, through its children, is priceless!

Have just googled Mai Chau to see where you are off to tomorrow. The pics look stunning! I'm sure you will have a great time.

It's strange - it's quite a difficult thing to comment on another's travel blog! The only news I have to report is so mundane and everyday by comparison! Alex and I are sitting in the window seat at home: he's on the chaise longue and I'm on the bean bag. We are grabbing a few quiet moments to unwind before bed! We had sausage casserole and rhubarb flognarde for supper with Margaret, who has now gone home. Tomorrow I have to go to the southern suburbs of London for a dialogue call on Fledermaus, while Alex goes off to Southend to run a 3 hour workshop on Carmen for some kids who will be taking part in the show!

What other news? None really. We have got to the end of our very busy period, which involved staying many nights with Mum in London and a lot of trains and cars, snatching moments to try to cram one's head with words and music. It is really nice to have a few weeks at home now before heading off to France. Alongside the music learning, we have a few small projects to keep us busy. One job is to paint the garden fences, summerhouse and studio with weather proofing. I shall use the job as a break from singing etc and try to get into an Eastern frame of mind - à la Karate Kid - to do it! Wax on, wax off!

We are also going to build a garden gate for the other side of the house so we can get the bikes out for bike rides more easily. Hoping to see Man of Steel in the cinema on Tuesday!

The garden has gone mad this year. Bushes seem to have doiubled in size. Th apple tree is laden with fruit, the roses are incredible, and our veg bed is a veritable cornucopia of produce. We have fox gloves and hollycocks popping up, plus other beautiful wild flowers which have turned up from nowhere!! The bees are back in force, I'm happy to say.

Well, shall comment again in a couple of days. Enjoy week 4! Shall consult your itinerary to see where you head off to next!
    Lots of love,
    J and Axxxxx
PS. have noticed your bracelet in the photos. Glad to see you are wearing it!
